How difficult is it to get into a raw food diet?

With all that sprouting and having to take 5 days to prepare a meal etc. Does it take much longer than conventional cooking? How difficult is it to get into a raw food diet?
First, I rarely sprout anything. Second, nothing I eat takes 5 days to prepare.

I usually start the day with a smoothie. (Frozen bananas, fresh OJ, agave nectar)

Other staples of mine include cashew ranch dip, flax seed tostadas, guacamole, nut burgers, onion bread...

(The nut burgers and bread dehydrate overnight. Nothing else is time consuming.)

The best books to start with are "Raw Food Made Easy" by Jennifer Cornbleet, and "The Complete Book of Raw Food" by Lori Baird and Julie Rodwell. Both have good recipes that don't require specialty equipment, and "The Complete Book of Raw Food" is packed with information and resources. How difficult is it to get into a raw food diet?
Not much.
If you have the determination, you can do it. As long as you have the kitchen essentials, it isn't that hard to successfully endure a living foods diet. You will need a dehydrator (preferably from Excalibur) and a blender/food processor (invest in a Vitamix. Best out there). I've read both "Raw Food Made Easy For 1 or 2 People" by Jennifer Cornbleet, and "The Complete Book of Raw Food" by Lori Baird and Julie Rodwell. They were both good books. Although I do admit it gets hard in the beginning because pretty soon you come by ingredients you've never heard of and it turns into a scavenger hunt. And Im from nyc. We have stores everywhere. It was really hard. But really, i feel if you have to worry about time, its finding the ingredient for certain recipes.

I would also recommend "Ani's Raw Food Kitchen: Easy, Delectable Living Foods Recipes" by Ani Phyo.

If you want more gourmet dishes for days like Thanksgiving, use "Raw Food/Real World: 100 Recipes to Get the Glow" by Matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngailis and "Living Raw Food: Get the Glow with More Recipes from Pure Food and Wine" by Sarma Melngailis. If you are ever in NYC definitely go see their raw food restaurant, "Pure Food and Wine".How difficult is it to get into a raw food diet?
Once you figure out that you don't need to make all of those elaborate dishes, it's really easy. Just stock up your kitchen with fruit and veg and you'll be good.. The only thing I would say is difficult is running out of food quicker than if you weren't on a raw diet. It's really fun though if you experiment with different raw recipes.

By the way, if you're transitioning I would suggest "raw till dinner" where you eat breakfast and lunch raw but have a cooked vegan dinner so detoxing isn't as harsh.
Don't eat raw sprouts. Eat a raw diet consisting of fruits and vegetables. Read Frederic Patenaude (rawvegan.com) or Dr Doug Graham (foodnsport.com)How difficult is it to get into a raw food diet?
Hi,

I would hope you would consider not eating raw foods.

Cooking accomplishes:

1- kills e-coli,

2- evaporates most excessive 'acids' that can cause loose stools, {try eating 200 calories of 'raw' spinach or mustard greens versus 200 calories of 'cooked' spinach or mustard greens, in order to do it you will have to cook it unless you are a horse (-:]}

3- breaks out and evaporates most all the pesticides,

4- breaks down the cell structure to make it easier for your colon to digest, which minimizes any gi cancers,

5- with spinach the USDA lists that its nutritional density (i.e. nutrition/calories) improves with cooking,

6- I have never read anywhere where research has been done that shows raw is better than cooked foods that is more than anecdotal sales pitches?

My best to you,

A1
