If I decide to feed my puppy RAW food how long before he has a bowel movement?

He will be 8 weeks old, when my other dog was a puppy it took him around 5 minutes before he had to go.If I decide to feed my puppy RAW food how long before he has a bowel movement?
What do you mean? Are you asking about the time frame between feeding and pooping or how long until only raw food poop is produced?

I have raw feed my pups from the time of weaning (with my home bred pups) or from 9 weeks when we got them home. For the pups they were pooping about three or four times a day.

Remember to feed your pup based on its expected ADULT weight - start at about 2% a day and then adjust this up or down as the pup grows.

My pups at eight weeks old were eating three or four meals a day

Breakfast - kangaroo mince with either fish, egg or organ added

Lunch - chicken drumstick or wing, or pork rasher/ribs

Dinner - meat offcuts (beef, kangaroo or lamb) or heart (ox or lamb)

Supper - some type of ground meat and maybe some leftover vegetables once or twice a weekIf I decide to feed my puppy RAW food how long before he has a bowel movement?
Please consult your vet before changing your puppy's diet to make sure he's getting all the nutrients he needs.
It shouldn't take the dog any longer than normal to have a bowel movement. As a puppy, you're not feeding him a great deal of bone, so he shouldn't be constipated.

More importantly, each dog is different. Changing to raw is a process, usually happening over a week's time.

There is a really great Raw feeding list in Yahoo groups, you should join it to help you with this transition.

By the way, most vets don't take a great deal of nutrition courses in college, and what they know is usually taught by people who run the large corporation dog food chains. When it comes to raw, you are not going to find much support for it with most vets, even though that's the way people were feeding their dogs well before dry dog kibble was invented. Also visit www.leerburg.com and look for the raw feeding info on the menu on the left. Have fun with raw, my dogs are raw fed too, going on 4 years now.If I decide to feed my puppy RAW food how long before he has a bowel movement?
Depends on your pup.

Anna T: WOLVES DO NOT EAT STOMACH CONTENTS OF LARGE PREY ANIMALS. Please do your research BEFORE you answer next time. CARNIVORES DO NOT NEED CEREAL/GRAINS OR SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF VEGETATION IN THEIR DIETS.

When a large prey animal is brought down, the liver and heart are consumed FIRST. Then the stomach and intestines are removed and shaken free of their contents. Whatever matter is left in these bits IF they are consumed at all is less than 5% of their diet.

A PROPER raw diet is more than just meat, its meat, meaty bones, and organs.

All dog foods have more than just meat in them because MEAT is expensive. Veggies and grains are not.

To the OP if you are going to do raw do it right

ask ur vet!!!! r u tryin 2 kill ur dog?If I decide to feed my puppy RAW food how long before he has a bowel movement?
I agree with the first answer.Get some advice from your vet.Puppies stomachs are extremely sensitive and at that age his body wont have the tolerance to fight infection or stomach bugs and so on.Also a dog needs more than just meat in his diet.He needs cereal, grain and vegetation. In the wild when a pack hunts and gets a kill its usually a herbivore. Therefore all the vegetation would be inside the gut of its prey. This would then be consumed by the pack.Hence the fact that all complete, balanced dog foods have a certain percent of cereals and vegetables in it.
