Does frozen raw food need to thaw bfor cooking?

I made some tamales and froze them. I want to have them for dinner tonight but don't know if I should thaw before steaming them. Also for other foods, can I take straight from the freezer to pan?Does frozen raw food need to thaw bfor cooking?

There are a few foods like instant meals, frozen battered or crumbed fish fillets and other packaged foods that can be cooked from frozen. (check the label)
