Why am I bloated and constipated when I'm living on raw food?

I've eaten nothing but fruit and raw vegetables and nuts since Monday and I'm constipated - when I wasn't before.

Fruit and veg are suppose to be wonders for curing constipation not causing it so what's wrong with me? I'm just so bloated and sluggish. Why am I bloated and constipated when I'm living on raw food?
You are most likely constipated and bloated because of your quick switch-over to eating foods with lots of fiber. Anytime you switch from eating little fiber to lots of fiber, that's going to happen because you're overwhelming your system with so much material to process. My advice is, since the RDA for fiber is 20 to 35 grams, start slow with 20 grams and work your way up to 40. Also, Metamucil, prunes and magnesium supplements may ease your constipation. You can still do this while eating raw; there are plenty of fruits and veggies with less fiber: bananas, avocados, etc.Why am I bloated and constipated when I'm living on raw food?
Some fruits and vegetables are good for it, others not. I think banana actually stops you up. If you really want to be less constipated, you need more fiber, and you're not going to get it just eating only fruits and veggies. If you can, add some grain to your diet: granola, bread, heck even a fiber bar helps. If nothing else, then get the powdered kind you can add to drinks. It will help. But fruits and vegs alone won't give you enough fiber to have normal bowel movements, especially when you're eatting a lot of them. Not to mention, cooking sometimes breaks down raw food in the process, which helps your body digest it easier. Perhaps eating it raw is keeping your body from that as well.

If I switch my dog to a RAW food diet will her breath and teeth improve?

I just adopted an 8 year old Maltese and her teeth look yucky, but not horrible. A couple are missing. She has terrible breath. Really really bad.If I switch my dog to a RAW food diet will her breath and teeth improve?
I can only answer this question based on my own personal experience.

I switched my 7 year old Kelpie to an all raw diet and his breath is soooo much better and his teeth are lovely and white. If I switch my dog to a RAW food diet will her breath and teeth improve?
LOL - Ok how many ways can you phrase this question???

There is no good advice until after she has seen a vet. They will be able to tell you the most accurate answer since we can't examine her teeth. She will most likely need more teeth removed %26amp; vet can show you how to brush them for maintenance. There is nothing til then that is going to magically make her breath better. It is very important given the condition of her teeth to do this soon before it cause more health issues for her.If I switch my dog to a RAW food diet will her breath and teeth improve?
Here is a copy of an anser I just gave to another dog question:

Based on my past experience you are not going to like my answer but here goes. The major cause of bad breath in humans is the tongue where bacteria grow and produce the bad breath. It is the same for the dog. Dog bad breath is primarily due to the bacteria on the tongue. In order to "cure" bad breath this bacteria must be removed on a regular basis. The only tongue cleaner that Iknow of that can be used on a dog is OraBrush because it is both a brush and a scraper. It is very gentle but effective. I have seen a Vet clean a dog's tongue with OraBrush and it worked very well. Here is their website if you are interested: http://www.orabrush.com Mints and gum or similar products for the dog just cover up the bad breath for a short time. To get rid of bad breath you must remove the cause of bad breath.

Any advide re a raw food plan? What to expect? How to go about it? ?

Just to get me started.

I can't even make yogurt.

I don't have a dehydrator or anything like that.

I do have sprouting equipment.

I want to give it a go and see if it works for me.

My goals are to eat more healthily and gain more energy.

I don't have a lot of access to organic veg.

I am a complete newbie so I would appreciate help from first principals.Any advide re a raw food plan? What to expect? How to go about it? ?
if you are looking at changing your eating habit the raw food diet is one of the worst thing you can do.

we are omnivores this means that we have a varied diet. some of the nutrient contained in meat for example can not be digested unless they are cooked. i would suggest that if you are looking for a fitter and healthier life style, you may want to look ate the paleo diet.

it's easy to follow, very close to our ancestral diet.

and believe me it works, i lost 6 st in 6 month on that basis.

i am also a professional chef that works for 2 weight loss camps so i do know what i am talking aboutAny advide re a raw food plan? What to expect? How to go about it? ?
If you start on a raw food diet, then chances are you won't have more energy, you'll have a lot less. It takes an awful lot of time, preparation a knowledge to get all the nutrients and calories you'll be needing from a raw food diet, simply cos there's so much you simply can't eat, and of course, popping vitamin pills and supplements would kinda defeat the object of it all.

my advice would be to either go vegetarian (if you're not) or vegan (if you're veggie but still think you're not eating healthily) I'd definitely cook everythign from scratch, no ready meals, no ready made sausages or fake meat, just load up your trolley with fresh veg and stuff and cook some really good things. and good luck!Any advide re a raw food plan? What to expect? How to go about it? ?
I think you will lose out on energy because of the stress of so minutely controlling your diet. Have a plan but keep it flexible. Don't make hard and fast rules that you will feel guilty about if you break them. Guilt is a killer! Just do what you can with what you can and see how it goes. You have not signed a contract - the food police are not going to take you away in the middle of the night! I hope you get where I am coming from as I mean no harm. If this way of eating suits you, you will learn as you go along. Also take time to consider how this will impact on your social life and your friends. It is a huge undertaking and don't underestimate it.Any advide re a raw food plan? What to expect? How to go about it? ?
Congrats on your excellent goal of eating raw food. Firstly start slow - perhaps 50 raw 50 cooked and gradually go to higher percent raw. There are plenty of sites for raw food recipes. Do smoothies, grow your sprouts, make pates from the sprouts and put on veggies, juice greens and all this will reduce your desire for cooked food. You don't need any fancy equipement for sprouting_sprout bags and/or jars are good. Ensure that you eat the sprouts with just the little bud before it starts to turn into a plant. Dehydrating can be substituted with low oven temps - I never did that cause i have a dehydrator. Find those foods that your mind and body agree with. For example, coconuts and avocados agree with me very much. Slow changes are the most long lasting. Good luck!

  • Should I put my Dog on the raw food Diet?

We have an English Mastiff who is 11 mo old. My husband is 100% up for it. Will it positivlvy benefit our pup?Should I put my Dog on the raw food Diet?
Before making a decision to do raw, you need to do a LOT of research! There are several ways you can go, from total raw, to a percentage, to make your own, to store bought/pre-packaged raw.

I would worry about putting a large breed puppy on it, however. I have a 10 month old that we switched to raw, and he got pano. We switched him back, and he's been fine. We might try switching him again when he's older.

It takes committment, and it takes education on the topic. You have to make sure that your dog's diet is TOTALLY balanced!Should I put my Dog on the raw food Diet?
Yes it will. Don't worry overmuch about a balanced diet - give him a good variety - balanced doesn't mean ever meal, it means overall. Do a search on Google for BARF diet and you'll get plenty of information. I believe there is also a raw-food Yahoo group too. It will be far better for him than feeding him 100% processed food, which is what any commercial diet is.
i think it would be healthy for your dog...as long as you also give him the specific vitamins he needs which are contained in packaged foods....but be careful with choosing where you get your raw meat from as the meat we eat isnt so good for dogs...we have had a dog die from too much "chemical" in supossedly raw meat!!!!Should I put my Dog on the raw food Diet?
Most vets are 100% against it. Remember, your dog is no longer a wolf, and that diet causes many problems from bacterial infections, diarrhea that turns to blood, and the rest of it. (Talk to your vet... it's too long to discuss here) I don't know how familiar you are with dogs, how many you have had, but from my experiences --- 40 years!!!--- it is far more trouble than it is worth. I have had dogs all my life, and thoroughly looked into that when it became a faddy thing to do.... Nope, don't want the problems.

All my dogs have lived long, healthy, happy lives with shining coats, and boundless energy.... What else is there????
I have been using the raw food diet with my dog since we got him as a puppy. Our breeder was into everything holistic, so we went with it as our last dog died young on a kibble diet. He is now four and is doing great. He loves his food, is a great weight, and looks good. He is also active and healthy. There are some really easy ways to feed raw food too. You can buy it frozen in a pet store and all you have to do is unfreeze it and serve it.Should I put my Dog on the raw food Diet?

I always seem to get my questions removed for giving out to much information. But I really would like to know the answer to this question and not have my question removed. I would by eating it consistently with my other food. Let people know how great it makes me feel because of the omegas in it. Which is something A lot of people don't know is a very essential fatty acid to many lack. Who doesn't want healthy skin, improved neural brain function, better hair, nice cardiovascular system and best of all a natural fat loss aid that improves metabolism.

Most of our ancestors ate a lot of fish (loaded with Omegas)

So many have a you could say, a natural "bond" with this important EFA(essential fatty acid) that has long been forgotten when we switched to other sources of food.

Gluten Allergy is a wide spread problem, far to many don't even know they have!

So always getting blood work done to determine any food intolerance/allergies. Is your best bet to stay away from foods that your body rejects and makes cortisol shoot up in your body, therefor causing fat gains at times.

Dr. Coates backs it up 100%. Purely potent, well harvested Mila is a great contribution to any ones diet.

In A Vegan Raw Food DIet what else do you have to eat besides fruit and vegies to get all the vitamins?

like you wont get enough nutrients just from fruit and vegetables i heard so what else do you eat to get all the nutrients? i heart like nuts? but what kind or what is it?In A Vegan Raw Food DIet what else do you have to eat besides fruit and vegies to get all the vitamins?
Vitamin B12 is avaliable only from animal sources (meat, egg yolks, and cheese). A lack of vitamin B12 is often seen in vegans, and if left untreated, results in neurological damage (brain damage) and anaemia. The Vegan Society, the Vegetarian Resource Group, and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine all reccomend that vegans take vitamin B12 supplements.

Besides this, vitamin D (which we get from the sunlight) is often seen lacking in vegans. This is because we need Calcium to absorb it, and many soy products don't have as much Calcium as animal milk. However, there are certain mushrooms which contain small amounts of vitamin D, but these are hard to get hold of. Lack of calcium and vitamin D can cause rickets, osteoporosis, and osteomalacia.

Iodine deficiencies are observed in vegans who don't use large amounts of salt, as most people get iodine from animal products. It can be obtained by eating multivitamins or frequently eating kelp. Iodine deficiencies lead to hypothyroidism, depression, goitre, mental slowing, weight gain, and other problems.

There are other deficiencies, but these are the most severe. If you want to live as a vegan diets are often advertised as being "wholesome and natural" with health benefits, but there are far more health risks involved. On top of this, many of the meat-alternative products and multivitamins that are taken cause more animal deaths and discomforts than simply living on a vegetarian diet (allowing milk and eggs), due to the manner in which they must be obtained. However, if you are convinced that this is the lifestyle you want, you should take multivitamins for vegans (there are many products avaliable) which include most, if not all, of the commonly lacking nutrients. In A Vegan Raw Food DIet what else do you have to eat besides fruit and vegies to get all the vitamins?
nuts, wheat, rice, corn products and cereal products but really if man was meant not to eat meat, fish etc then God would not have put them on the earth - think about it
To the person who mentioned B12, yes it is in animal products, but I believe it is also in nutritional yeast, but this is not a raw product as far as I know of....but it is a vegan product. In A Vegan Raw Food DIet what else do you have to eat besides fruit and vegies to get all the vitamins?
guacamole and salsa, food 'cooked' slowly in a dehydrator, bean sprouts, which are very high in nutrients.
Man was not meant to eat raw grains and beans. I'm not understanding your last two questions, though. In A Vegan Raw Food DIet what else do you have to eat besides fruit and vegies to get all the vitamins?
I use nuts for protein and avocados and olive oil for healthy fats. Get some raw almonds which you might be able to find at HEB, Whole foods, and some local health food stores. Soak 1 cup of the nuts in filtered drinking water for about 6 - 12 hours. You can soak longer than that if you like. When you're done soaking them you should rinse them at least 2 times. Go ahead and eat one, they are actually kind of sweet. To make some really good milk from the nuts put the cup of soaked nuts into a blender with some water (about 2 cups water to start with). Blend them up really good and add water as you go to get the thickness or thiness that you like. You can add agave necture or a raw sugar to sweeten it up if you like. When you're done blending them up really well strain the liquid out of the nuts. I use a small hand held wire strainer and pour in just enough to fill it to the top, then I use a spoon to press the liquid out of the nuts. Once I've done that, I dump the nut mixture out and do it again until I've strained all of the milk out. You can use this milk to put into your green smoothies or even on your cereal. It's a good source of protein. Other than that you can get green powder at a health food store, it's not very tasty though. I also take blue green algae tablets. Best of luck to you. I forgot to mention that B12 is in blue green algae which is also called spiralina. Someone at your local health food store can help you pick out which is best for you.

I tried this diet for about a month and it helped me feel refreshed and lose about 10 pounds. So good for you for trying it out. You can eat unprocessed, fresh foods like fruits, veggies, nuts, legumes and seeds. Don't get anything roasted, cooked, etc. and try to buy organic. Wash your produce well because pesticides and bacteria are not good for you, and won't be destroyed by cooking. Buy a juicer or a blender and make lots of veggie and fruit juices and smoothies (really delicious) For example, ice, berries, orange juice and spinach (you can't even taste it) into a blender. I also enjoyed hummus, beans and nuts (non roasted) and obviously, lots of fresh veggies. Try not to eat too much fruit, but have as many veggies as you want. Fruit is good for you but has a ton of sugar. Also, fresh fruit is better than dried because it has more water/nutrients. Coconut milk is really good too. I especially enjoyed chopping tomatoes and dressing them with cold pressed olive oil and some herbs/spices/salt. Delicious! Hope this helps :)

I remember reading about it at another site and they said their dogs are in great health. Many of the breeders and people with show dogs on the site were big advocated of this type of feeding. I'd like to know more. Thanks!I"m interested in switching my puppy to the BARF diet and raw food. What do I need to know?
Using quality food is a good point. Use appropriate sized food - a turkey leg is too much for a toy pup.

Read and learn - there is a lot of information out there. I have fed a variety of foods and the dogs love it. Raw chicken - yes they can eat chicken. Don't give them COOKED poultry - the bones splinter. RAW they can eat. Be careful with wings in large breeds.

It takes more effort but is worth it.I"m interested in switching my puppy to the BARF diet and raw food. What do I need to know?
http://www.barfworld.com/ This site will give you all the info you need. Personally, I don't have time to give my pom pup this diet so I just give him a high end dog food (Science Diet) and that seems to work great for him. Good luck! :)

that's just a fancy pet diet for fanatic pet owners. I worked in the pet business for many years and the best pet food is dry and the main ingredients should start with Lamb Meal, or Chicken Meal, or Beef meal. This is meat that is removed from the animal, allowed to dry and then is weighed into the bag. If the main ingredient in pet food is corn or by-products then your feeding your dog junk. Pet store brand pet food such as Nutro, or Iams, Natures Choice are the best brands. Grocery store bought foods such as Purina, etc., have poor quality ingredients because all there money is spent on advertising not on the product itself.
Here are a few pro-BARF websites. I am not a BARF fan, wild canines are omnivores and can and do digest things other than meat (unlike cats, who are pure carnivores). Wild dogs do not live as long as domestic dogs, even in the face of abundance, and discounting accidental death. But the BARF diet has many good points, but requires much dedication on the part of the owner.I"m interested in switching my puppy to the BARF diet and raw food. What do I need to know?

BARF dog food - My dog wont eat it raw! Does anyone know if it's ok to microwave the food etc?

The lady that i bought the BARF from at the pet deli told me to microwave it a little and slowly mix more raw food each time to 'trick' my dog into eating raw food. ..but i cant seem to put hardly any raw in if i want her to eat it! i know the point of BARF is that it is raw, but im wondering if i cant get her to eat it raw then is it ok to just microwave cook it for her???

Please let me know if you know anything about this as my dog is a Chihuahua and is soo small I dont want to be harming her by feeding her cooked versions of B.A.R.F

    THANKS!

[aus]BARF dog food - My dog wont eat it raw! Does anyone know if it's ok to microwave the food etc?
Microwaving the food is going to kill vital nutrients your dog needs. It can also make the bones brittle, and cooked brittle bones are bad. (Raw bones are fine)

    What exactly did you buy?

I'd just go down to the local grocery store and get some chicken wings to start with.

Also check out some of the websites below, and I highly recommend the group "rawdogs" over http://www.livejournal.com especially if you're having troubles. Several experienced BARF feeders over there, I'm sure they've got some tips. My dogs just took to it right away, so I haven't had to deal with a picky BARF fed dog as of yet.

There is another diet option other than dog food. Some people choose to feed a raw diet. This involves feeding the dog raw meaty bones and organ meat. However it is not as simple as throwing a couple chicken bones in a bowl everyday. If you wish to feed this type of diet, do lots and lots of research first. Switching to this diet without knowing what your doing can lead to nutritional problems for your dog. I'll give you some links as a starting point in research if you are interested in this type of diet.

It is just like cooking any other food..it won't hurt her.

If your dog won't eat raw..just feed her table food. It is much better than most of the dog foods out there anyway.

I am surprised she won't eat raw...but why force her?

(by the way..I feed raw..so I am not against it by any means.)

Perhaps it is just the brand of raw food you are feeding? ther are alot of them out there nowdays. Or you can do your own.

My dogs have never eaten the BARF way of eating raw..only other ways. However, when I have purchased some raw dogfoods...they didn't like them all. (my dog hated Aunt Jenni's rabbit formula..surprising since he seemed to want to eat one)!

But he loved her other flavors. You can do raw diets yourself it you want. Try the PHD one. (perfect health diet)....Yahoo it..

My favorite was AMore, out of canada, but they stopped selling it her after 9/11...said it was too expensive with the new fees.

And I don't recommend any bones the dogs can chew and digest, raw or not. Dogs can die from this. Just becaseu dogs do something in nature, doesn't mean it is healthy or they don't die from it.

Also...your dog is not going to get salmonella from eating raw food...unless you let it get to room temperature...before feeding your dog.

Since you take it straight from the fridge , put it down, and your dog gobbles it up...no salmonella possible.

I your dog doesn't eat it right away, however...that changes things. If they don't...pick it up right away.

    good luck
    Dear friend

this website gives you the answer.more useful information available about your pet.

http://www.careyourpet.orgBARF dog food - My dog wont eat it raw! Does anyone know if it's ok to microwave the food etc?
to get your dog used to the Barf diet start out with the kibble that she likes. Put in a little tiny bit of the raw food and let her eat it. Once she is eatting this well then add a little more raw and a little less kibble. Wait till she eats this without complaint and again decrease the kibble and increase the raw. Also check what kind of Raw you are feeding. Some dogs done like buffallo or chicken or turkey etc. Try different ones to see which he would perfer. My boys eat Chicken and/or turkey and wil occassionally eat beef but not often. My ferrets like turkey but not chicken. If you go to the address below there is a number of good articles there on feeding raw food. Technically you will not harm her by feeding her cooked but you do need to be careful. if your raw food has bones in it and you cook the bones they could splinter and become sharp which wont happen when they are just plain raw. Hope this helps. Keep trying because it really is a wonderful food to have your dog on. It will make them so much more healthy in the long run

Edit: also to the people claiming salmonella is possible with raw food. Although this is true in theory it is also misleading because dogs on kibble also show traces of this. so basically as is quoted on teh Mountaindogfood.com site:

As for the fecal matter regardless of the type of food fed IT ALL IS CONTAMINATED WITH BACTERIA as a natural response in nature. Fecal matter is loaded with nutrients that support bacteria and will always have it regardless of the food that produced it. So don't be misled by those that would say only the raw diets have bacteria in the fecal matter it is a half truth.
you have gotten some very differant answers here.

I personally feed the raw diet and am very satisfied with it and have done for 10 years. I have NO vet issues other than regular shots, wormings and check ups. I have 17 dogs right now that eat this diet.

There are recipes to cook for your dogs on line that are very good, but the problem with cooking the food is it does take out the nutrients.

If your dog does not like the raw, then i suggest going with a all natural dog food.

There are some really good ones out there even though they are a bit higher priced but the dog eats less, poops less and is healthier.

canidae, solid gold, wellness, california natural, dick van pattens formula, and my favorite Innova evo.

My dogs get innova when my kids have to feed my dogs but that is only about once to twice a month. It is all natural and a very good food.

There are some very good all natural dog foods at pet stores and look at the ingrediants with NO CORN, NO beet pulp, NO soy. You want a dog food with the first 5 ingrediants meat and veggies.

Smart dog. Despite the numerous thumbs-down I will get to the contrary, BARF is neither healthy nor safe (I have a degree from MSU and a license that says I know more on the subject than those giving me thumbs-down). You can get salmonella from your dog even if your dog doesnt act sick, dogs can become carriers of salmonella when fed BARF, and 75% of the BARF foods tested recently were contaminated with salmonella and other things.

There are plenty of homemade COOKED diets you can try, with homemade or BARF you need to worry about supplements, something that has already been taken care of for you when you feed prepackaged. If you want to go holistic/whole food, check out a brand called Wellness, they make a 95% meat canned dog food line that's a great and SAFE alternative to barf.

And FYI: you do not get "food enzymes" to aid digestion with BARF, contrary to popular belief. Digestive enzymes come from the liver and pancreas, not the muscle tissue of dead animals. And the changes to nutrition during cooking are minimal unless you boil it and dump the water down the drain, because the water leeches out nutrients. Cooking by other methods does NOT remove nutrients.

Also bones can cause GI irritation and can puncture the intestine, regardless of raw or cooked.

One other point: You say she's a small chihuahua. It's not unusual for a tiny dog to need 200 calories or less per DAY, that's like one granola bar's worth of calories. A bite or two could be a full meal for her, and especially if you feed treats, it can seem like she's not eating, so owners try to tempt them to eat more. But they usually don't need it. You should be able to feel her ribs, they should feel like the bones on the back of your hand with fingers outstretched. If you can't feel them at all or really need to search for them, she's overweight. If the ribs feel like your knuckles when you make a fist, she's too thin.

Yes, packaged dog food can have salmonella contamination too, but it is not found in ALL brands of dry, and it IS found in ALL brands of BARF, in much higher levels. Dogs becoming carriers of salmonella and infecting humans is FACT, not fiction. If you want, I can post the article from Veterinary Clinician's Brief magazine for you, or the notes from the seminar I went to this weekend.
It technically is not BARF if it is cooked (even just a little bit). But, it is much safer for the dog to cook the food first. I wouldn't think that cooking it would do much damage, but I really am not positive.

I personally do not like or recommend BARF diets for dogs. I have seen two dogs die from e-coil that they got from raw meat, and one die from a chicken bone that got stuck in its intestines. If you are going to buy BARF for you dog and absolutely will not feed it dry food I would at least freeze the food first. It will only damage a little of the nutrition, but it will kill a lot of the bad stuff in the meat.
microwaving the food will kill some nutrients your dog needs. if she'll eat dry, just find a premuim brand of dry kibble.
You should not cook or microwave ANY raw meat with bones. The bones can become brittle, break and your dog could choke on them. Pouring boiling water or steaming the raw meats lightly would be far more preferrable than microwaving them. Some dogs need a little encouragement when starting on a new diet. Keep in mind, dogs won't starve themselves, so its possible your dog isn't that hungry or is full. Many people recommand doing a cleansing diet for their dogs when switching to raw, which consists of liquids for a 24-48 hour period before starting them on the meat. Do a google search on cleansing for dogs and see if anything sounds like it would help your dog.

    Jimmy,

I remember reading about Michael Jackson's many live longer ideas. It did him no good.

How many vegetarian and vegans are there out there who smoke? I have known many!

The first thing you need to get a grip on is death. Its coming to you and I sooner than we like. I say this as none of us want to go just at the moment. Yet to date none of the friends and relatives who I have lost over the years (suicide not included) had before hand said now is a good time. Absolute all had plans reaching years into the future and that is including friends who had terminal disease. They all expected to last longer.

I say. Don't measure life in years, instead measure life in adventures and experiences. In other words quality of life.

In your case yes what you eat is important. Don't structure your diet expecting it (what you eat) to deliver you years longer on Earth. Instead seek a rounded and enjoyable diet. See a diet expert for guidance on what is safe and what to avoid. Also look after your self by clean living and positive mental thoughts and is sick seek medical help if its required.

  • Has anyone tried the raw food diet? Any tips?

I'm overweight by about 20lbs and would like to try the raw food diet. I'm vegan, but tend to eat a lot of junk food. I want to try the raw food diet for 3 months.

Do you have any tips and is this a realistic goal? to lose 20lbs in 3 months?

See site below about losing weight with vegetarian foods, vegan foods and raw foods and the advantages of them. It also tells about an 85% raw diet that works just as well. Also the HEALTH FOOD STORE link has fake junk foods that taste almost as good as junk foods but have healthy ingredients. This includes all raw food bars.

I have lived on a mostly raw food diet for 20 years and it has served me well. I steam my vegetables, but if you want to be strict about raw foods, slice the vegetables thin and add olive oil and seasonings. I eat lots of raw tofu ,mixed with fruit, to add protein, and lots of non-fat yoghurt as well.

If you want to lose twenty pounds in three months it is a possible, albeit somewhat difficult goal. In order to achieve your goal you have to lose the junk food habit. No sugary drinks, fried foods, chips, mashed potatoes and butter,

chocolate pudding. Zero. If you need a treat, try fresh blueberries and kiwi fruit.

Exercise is a must. Everyone will tell you this and they are right.

To achieve your goal, you need to cut back or burn 755 calories per day from where you are now( 3400cal/lb)(20lb)/ 90 days. Aerobic exercise burns 70-100 calories per mile depending on the person and workout intensity. If you can do enough exercise to burn 355 calories and cut 400 calories from your diet, you will reach your goal.

Life expectancy is about the same. There are no guarantees that any form of reasonably healthy diet will make you live longer. You certainly will be a drag at dinner parties and eating out, and get bored very quickly of the limitations you will have set yourself. The healthiest diet globally is Japanese, maybe you could look into that as an inspiration. How much longer would one adopting a raw food lifestyle expect to live than someone who has a normal diet?
There has not been much (if any) long-term scientific research done on this new diet-fad to explicitly say for sure how long you will live.

There is no evidence to support the idea that eating raw foods is superior to cooking it. Cooking does not kill nutrients (except for vitamin C, but there are so many foods that provide vitamin C it's ok) and actually increases lycopene levels in foods that have them.

Raw food diets are like organic diets, they are a fad unsupported by any evidence. Will starting a raw food diet help me lose weight?

What can you not eat on the raw food diet?

I'm considering starting it soon, and I'm wondering what some of the non obvious restricted foods are. I don't know a lot about this. Of course you can't have meat or cook anything, but what are some other things you can't eat. Can you have bread or milk? Peanut butter? Or is it strictly fruit and veggies? What can you not eat on the raw food diet?
Actually - there are rawists who do eat meat and eggs - and they do not cook them. I am not recommending it - just saying that is what some people choose to do.

Generally rawists will not eat food that has been heated above 115 degrees, which is the point where the enzymes are broken down. Most of the raw food/whole food movement is getting enzymes from living food.

So normal bread you get in the store is out - but there are bread like foods that rawists make to use instead of bread. Generally they make a dough but instead of baking it - they put it in a dehydrator to finish "cooking" it. Here is a recipe for Italian Bread that is raw-food-compliant: http://rawfoodsdiet.wetpaint.com/page/It鈥?/a>

Milk from the grocery store is out as it has been pasteurized. Raw milk would be acceptable - if you can find it - it is not legal in many all states.

Peanut Butter is out because the peanuts are roasted - however you can probably find fresh-ground raw almond butter at the health food store. What can you not eat on the raw food diet?
You can't have bread, but some raw foodists dehydrate a mix of flaxseeds and other stuff to make crackers, which they top with veggies to make a sandwich.

You can't have commercial peanut butter, but you can make your own! Artisana makes lots of nut butters, like coconut, cashew, pecan, almond etc.

It's not just fruits and veggies, you can also have nuts, seeds, etc.

I suggest you read up on some raw vegan athletes like Tonya Kay (kayosmarket.com and tonyakay.com), Brendan Brazier (brendanbrazier.com) etc.

Here are some of their interviews about protein:

    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article鈥?/a>
You can have raw milk on a vegetarian diet. You can have SPROUTED grain breads, you can't have peanut butter. A raw food diet consists mainly of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds. If your not raw vegan, you will also eat bee pollen, honey, and some raw milk. What can you not eat on the raw food diet?
    anything
bread is cooked so I'm assuming you couldn't have that..What can you not eat on the raw food diet?
On cooked diets, the vegans are usually healthier than the vegetarians, and the vegetarians are usually healthier than the omnivores.

However on raw diets, the omnivores and vegetarians are healthier than the vegans. I wish it wasn't so, but it is. 50% of raw vegans develop health problems, which go away when they add raw eggs or dairy OR cooked grains and legumes. 50% of raw vegans are healthy and happy but there are an awful lot of horror stories from the rest. I unfortunately am in the 50% who is not healthy on raw vegan. But now I'm stuck - I'm vegan for ethical reasons, but my body is no longer adapted to cooked food so cooked things make me really ill. So I can never go back to cooked vegan. Which means I'm stuck on raw vegan and feel lousy!

So in answer to your question, yes you can eat raw unpasteurised milk and raw eggs on a raw food diet. Most raw foodists seem to be vegan but there are plenty of vegetarians and omnivores on a raw diet.

You can't buy bread or milk or peanut butter. But you can make your own peanut butter out of raw peanuts (bought in shells), for which you need a juicer with a homogenising attachment such as the Champion or the Greenstar. You can also make all other kinds of nut and seed butters which are healthier for you than peanut. You can go to a farm and buy raw unpasteurised milk. Goat is far healthier than cows. You can't make yogurt because that needs to be heated but you can buy some kefir grains which are a culture. You add them to milk and they ferment it in 24 hours, to make something similar to yogurt, only it's liquid, and far better for you. Kefir can cure yeast infections, yogurt can only ease them a bit. If you leave kefir in for days then the milk will go thick similar to cottage cheese.

You can make bread in a dehydrator, the excalibur is best. You have to soak the grains, then drain, then water them twice a day until they sprout. Then grind them up. Add other ingredients (either just water or add flavourings/oils). Then mould into a loaf shape, and place in the dehydrator (or outside under the sun if you live somewhere really hot), until dry.

Raw vegans eat fruit, veg, nuts, seeds, sprouted beans/lentils/chickpeas, sprouted quinoa/millet/oats, seaweed, coconut, olive oil, flax oil, herbs, spices, cacao powder (raw cocoa powder), carob powder.
y the hell would u wanna do that u would be starving n bread is cooked btw i think u wuld just get really sick n feel like fainting all the time i did something like that n almost passed out a few times n u would walk around like a zombie all day cuz u have no energy..... after about 4 months i got sick of it n started eating regular again n was finally happy n energetic n not passing out

  • =Suggestions for 'recipes' for a raw-ferret food diet?=?

I may have convinced my mom to switch our ferret to a raw-food diet (she'd be the one buying the food, but i'd be preparing and feeding it to her). I'm looking for suggestions and 'recipes', and other preparation suggestions/techniques

    Thanks!=Suggestions for 'recipes' for a raw-ferret food diet?=?
There really isn't much to raw feeding when done properly, a ferret shouldn't be eating parts of anything as they need whole prey. A balanced diet is actually very hard to do and in order to ensure that they are getting the proper nutrition you need to offer the entire prey animal, which means there is little preparation for you to do, just take mouse, chick, quail, etc. out of the freezer and offer it to the ferret.

Switching the ferret to a prey diet can be difficult to start if you have not started them on a raw diet yet, to do that I'd suggest starting with something like Bob's Chicken Gravy and gradually making it thicker and chunkier but once they get it just ensure you offer the entire animal.

The ferret needs to eat the bone, liver, heart, etc. in order to get the proper balance of vitamin and minerals in their diet and it's important to offer this on a regular basis when feeding raw. A reputable supplier like Rodent Pro will be able to deliver quality prey food and you will not have to worry about where it's come from or doing any preparation, as I mentioned just remove from the freezer and serve, my ferrets even prefer their mice still frozen - mousicles!

Good luck with the diet, it's a healthy option for the ferrets and it will save you a lot of money in the long run as it is great for both dental and GI health.=Suggestions for 'recipes' for a raw-ferret food diet?=?

    Yup, i can help you!

Ferrets like meaty stuff...... so why not boil some chicken, till its really tender.

make sure that there are no spices, salt, pepper or oil in the meat.

this could upset your pet's stomach.

Chicken is not very expensive, and your ferret will love it!

just break the chicken in really small pieces and feed it!

    Hope I helped!

Note: don't feed your ferret raw food as it is a household pet that is not used to hunting. Boiled meat or fish is the best!=Suggestions for 'recipes' for a raw-ferret food diet?=?

I'm looking to start a raw food diet, and I'm not entirely certain where to begin?

My biggest worry is the deficiency of certain minerals and nutrients, but also that I'm getting all the calories I need. Recipes, whole meal plans, or ways to counter the lack of certain nutrients absent in these diets would help greatly!

Also, could I eat canned tuna or is that a no no?I'm looking to start a raw food diet, and I'm not entirely certain where to begin?
You can definitely get all the nutrients and calories you need from a raw food diet. I would visit http://bit.ly/bR5DSM - Dr Ritamarie is a raw food expert and nutrition coach. She has alot of great resources and information on her website.

Also check with Fred Patenaude and the Boutenkos. Revvell Revatti on Facebook is another great resource. Good luck to you!!I'm looking to start a raw food diet, and I'm not entirely certain where to begin?
Some canned tuna products state that it is low in fat and cholesterol, but remember that it still has preservatives in it which is not good for the body. If you really want a raw food diet, vegetable as well as fruits salads would suffice. Eat them on an every other day diet and you would surely get the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients needed.I'm looking to start a raw food diet, and I'm not entirely certain where to begin?

Raw food diet for dogs question: Can dogs eat this?

Deer necks (meaty) my dogs are power chewers but I don't know if deer necks are "break bones" and if I'd need to remove the bones after they eat the meat?

Also can they eat beef gullet? Is that a good choice to buy?

Thank you in advance for the help.Raw food diet for dogs question: Can dogs eat this?
Uncooked bones are considered safe, at least by those who tout raw diets. Uncooked bones (including bird bones) don't splinter and provide calcium for the dog.Raw food diet for dogs question: Can dogs eat this?
    The necks are fine.

I personally would not feed beef gullet that is commercially produced (aka CAFO produced) to my dogs. Study after study has shown that corn-fed cattle are teaming with e-coli - far more than cows on a natural grass diet. Yes, dogs can handle things like e-coli, but in my mind that is simply tempting fate just a little too much. (I try to stay away from commercially produced ground beef as well.) If it's coming from grass-fed cattle, by all means, have at it.

    Just my opinion.
I understand that as a rule any meat from an animal with hooves is considered safe. Meat as well as bones and gullet. You have to be careful to not give too much organ meat though. Chicken and eggs are okay, but no bones from chicken according to aspca.orgRaw food diet for dogs question: Can dogs eat this?
No clue on deer necks but beef gullet is fine if your dogs will eat it. Best bet, small package first so you don't end up with several pounds of something they won't eat.

I would try the deer necks but supervise and see how they do.
I feed necks and tails without any issues.

What I do stay away from is the dense weight bearing bones such as thigh and knuckle bones.

Fix times to have meals and stick to it. Try to have food at fixed times of the day. You can stretch these times by half an hour, but anything more than that is going to affect your eating pattern, the result will either be a loss of appetite or that famished feeling which will make you stuff yourself with more than what is required the next time you eat. Will a 2-week raw food diet make me lose weight?

Should i add the complete Bloods too...while making Raw cat food with a whole Carcasses ?

While making Raw Cat food, what about the Bloods ?

Should they also be added if a whole chicken carcasses is prepared all at once ?Should i add the complete Bloods too...while making Raw cat food with a whole Carcasses ?
Yes, blood is okay to be added in with the raw diet.

Be careful though that the "blood" isn't really just salty water retention from packaging. If you're buying a whole chicken "ready to cook", that "blood" that can be found at the bottom of the packaging can really just be salty water. I throw it out, unless I'm using a freshly dead bird, where I know the blood is actually ... well, blood.

Whole chicken carcass in itself is not complete. (By "carcass", I assume you mean back and rib-cage, with most of the meat removed) -- it contains too much bone and not enough meat.

Feed WHOLE chicken, not just "carcass".

You will need to also feed organ meat (10% of the diet - with 5% of that being liver - chicken or beef liver is fine) ....

Also, include some heart meat, as it's high in taurine.

Whole canned fish (sardine/herring/mackerel) is good for Omega 3's %26amp; 6's. Be sure to get the no-salt added/spring water variety.

Are you aware a Raw chicken carcass is not a balanced diet along for a cat? Raw feeding isn't as simple or as easy as it sounds

In the wild, when a cat captures a mouse, it consumes everything that is ediable-Flesh, organs, bones and entrails. Because the mouse is a herbivorous when the cat eats the stomach and intestines that contain seeds and plants it receives the trace elements and vitaimins needed for a nutritional balanced diet.

Would I be healthy if I just ate mostly just Raw Organic Food Bars?

I've been eating a ton of these Raw Organic Food Bars. The main ingredients are organic cashew butter, organic dates, organic agave nectar, and organic brown rice protein. They are 80% raw, with 8 g protein, 10 g fat, 21 g sugar, and 4 g fiber. They also have some greens in them.

If I eat these for b-fast and lunch, do you think I'll thrive?Would I be healthy if I just ate mostly just Raw Organic Food Bars?
    In a word: no.

You need much more than just cashews, dates, agave nectar, and brown rice to live. You're depriving your body of many nutrients and calories by sticking to just this for breakfast and lunch.

Just because it says "raw" and "organic" doesn't mean that you should live off of them.Would I be healthy if I just ate mostly just Raw Organic Food Bars?
    NO!

Variety is the key to a healthy diet. One can't live on organic cashews.

Remember proteins, carbohydrates, fatty acids, essential vitamins, calcium, etc.

Too many people put too much stock in raw food plans. With limited selections most raw foodists look malnourished to me. They look weak, tired, and usually pale. Plus humans have adapted to cooked foods to digest the highest nutritional value. For instance cooked tomatoes release more vitamin C into the human body than raw ones.

Really, you can enjoy a chocolate shake.......mmm............Would I be healthy if I just ate mostly just Raw Organic Food Bars?
if you do they odnt have all the neccesary nutrients for your body so make shure to take a daily multi vitiam with them. Also eating 18 grams of protein a day is super bad, and by reading the type of bar it isnot a whole protein so makeshure to include chicken, meat or fish in your dinner. But it sounds ok if you like them.Would I be healthy if I just ate mostly just Raw Organic Food Bars?
you need more vitamins than those bars provide. You need to eat some raw fruit and green veggies to make up the different. al little extra protein wouldn't hurt either.

Are there any stores that sell packaged raw food diets for dogs?

Some of the bigger chain pet shops do; call your local ones and ask.

I cannot recommend feeding any of the commercial varieties of meat-flavored baked paste with chemicals added. Commercially-prepared raw diets are not much better; they are full of cellulose filler. Instead, why not feed your dog actual food? The dog鈥檚 natural diet is raw meat on the bone. Try it. The dog will love it, the diet will help him teethe properly as a pup, keep his teeth clean the rest of his life, satisfy his lifelong need to chew and results in innocuous feces.

The basic idea is to approximate a wild diet as closely as possible; raw meat on the bone and small amounts of organ meat [liver is most important, but also kidneys, pancreas, spleen, lungs and what is called green tripe]. Amount to feed is calculated as 2-3% of the dog's ideal adult body weight. Your veterinarian can help you estimate that; then you just do the math. You don鈥檛 have to be exact; all amounts are to be averaged over a week or two. Dogs [not toys or puppies] that get big, complicated meals sometimes will eat for two days and then not again for five. All perfectly normal.

Most raw feeders that I've read have started their dogs on chicken: it is readily available and inexpensive, plus it is antibiotic- and hormone-free. The fat content is easy to control by how much of the skin you remove.

No grain, vegetable or fruit is a significant part of a grey wolf's diet. Dogs are genetically grey wolves.

Besides being unnatural, lately it is becoming more and more clear that commercial dog foods simply are not safe:

http://www.truthaboutpetfood.com/article鈥?/a>Are there any stores that sell packaged raw food diets for dogs?
Many of the websites should have store locators. I haven't seen commercial raw at many pet supply chains, besides Pet Supplies Plus, so I recommend checking out independently owned, "mom and pop" stores that specialize in natural food.

Commercial raw is very pricey, though, so if you do have the time for homemade raw, I would go with that.
Pet Supplies Plus does, and I'm told Petco does, but I've never seen any at my local store.

Your best bet is to go to a local pet store, preferably one that sells mainly natural diets. See if they have it there. Or, you could go to the website for Primal, Nature's Variety or another premade raw diet, and see if they have a store locator. Are there any stores that sell packaged raw food diets for dogs?
Yes. There's one in my area called the Natural Pet Center. But really, it's overpriced, has preservatives and other stuff dogs don't need. I suggest buying raw meats and veggies. I spend about $25 a mont for two dogs at an Asian food store here.
I get meat for my dogs from the butchers, you cant usually get cuts of meat that the butcher doesn't want to sell for free or very cheap. I go to my butcher at the end of the day and he gives me the stuff he hasn't used. Are there any stores that sell packaged raw food diets for dogs?

  • I just started a raw food diet; how long does the 'detox' period last?

I find the past few days I've been really tired and low on energy. I know this is part of the detox, but I can't seem to find information on the duration of this detox part.

Any help will be greatly appriciated, thanks in advance.I just started a raw food diet; how long does the 'detox' period last?
well normally it takes about a week until the body get ready of the bad stuff, normally you have to take juices, vegies, natural food, no fried, home style food is the best, also until you body digest system starts working normally, you have to drink lots of water, flush the system. You start to feel the difference, and also depends on your system and how well you stick to the diet.

I hope may help youI just started a raw food diet; how long does the 'detox' period last?
    LMAO!! Detox, indeed.

No, what you are experiencing is low energy due to the sudden drop in calories, as well as discomfort from sudenly overloading your body with a high-fiber diet that is going to cause cramps, bloating and (most of all!) gas.

It will last until you adjust the diet...of course. Or, you could try Bean-O (it helps).I just started a raw food diet; how long does the 'detox' period last?
The energy drop and fatigue are caused by getting insufficient nutrients and calories. Typically, the side effects of a detox include headaches (from sugar withdrawl) and/or nausea (from a sudden increase in chlorophyll (from leafy green veggies). You are experiencing symptoms of malnutrition!I just started a raw food diet; how long does the 'detox' period last?
    im with jetgirly.

Your body is going into shock from lack of carbohydrates and vitamins and minerals (which are more easily assimilated in cooked foods and meat)

The high fibre content will give you gas and make you lethargic after meals because it placed too much work on your digestive system. You are effectively fasting.

I believe your diet is unhealthy and extreme and will lead to numerous health problems. But it's your body.

Try making fresh juices or shakes (blended fruit with ice only) to keep your blood sugar levels up.
    http://www.hacres.com/home/home.asp

It can last a week or 2. It too depends on how toxic you were starting it. Consider some cooked foods to slow it down if it becomes too much.

Can someone explain the raw food diet to me?

I've read up on the BARF diet, is this the same thing? It seems time consuimg and expensive. Can someone explain the raw food diet to me?
Two good websites to learn more about raw feeding http://www.rawfed.com and http://www.rawlearning.com . Sometimes you can get lucky and find meats for great prices. There are co-ops where a bunch of people buy in bulk to save money. You can ask local hunters for leftovers from their kills, place ads for freezer burned meats. Or, look for marked down meats at your local grocery store/butcher. In the long run it's cheaper than kibble, and your dog will be much healthier.

As far as my understanding of the BARF diet, I believe that's the one that says you should feed vegetables and supplements. Of course there are debates whether or not dogs need either one, so that's up to you to decide. Can someone explain the raw food diet to me?
BARF is a type of raw feeding. It works but is pricey and i am not a huge fan. I support prey model raw diet. You would want to research more in depth before deciding but essentially you feed your dog 2-3% of their body weight. 80% of what you feed is whole meats, this means meat bones and all. Example would be like a whole chicken halve, or a leg of lamb. The other 20% is organs (gizzards, hearts, etc.)

Raw feeding can be a little more time consuming but is so good for dogs. As long as you shop smart it can be cheaper than most good kibble. Can someone explain the raw food diet to me?

BYB's: Only if you are feeding the BARF model of raw feeding. Prey Model/Franken prey - no fruits or veggies. Raw meat, meaty bones, organs eggs on occasion, that's it.I was wondering about raw food diets for dogs?
The whole point of raw food is that it's raw. Boiling it cooks it.

And it's not just chicken or beef. You have to add veggies and other things to make it a balanced diet.

    Rayven: Quite true.
There is a parasite and or bacteria risk with raw meats. Even pre-made raw food diets are potential dangerous with improper handling. It is a personal choice to feed a raw diet. Take all precautions (proper handling, temperature, freshness) that you can if you chose to feed raw meat. Just FYI Never feed your dog raw salmon!I was wondering about raw food diets for dogs?
The raw diet is very complex for dogs because they are more omnivorous than cats and ferrets, they need a wider variety of foods. However, with the meat part of the diet, you need to feed WHOLE prey items in addition to just meat...the dog needs the organs and bones to be healthy, and all food is fed raw...this might sounds gross but wild dogs dont have people to cook their meat for them, its natural!
Sounds like you need to do more research.

Feeding dogs raw food??? If you don't live in the country, do u just buy the meat at the grocery store?

what is the benefit of feeding raw food??Feeding dogs raw food??? If you don't live in the country, do u just buy the meat at the grocery store?
There is no benefit to feeding a raw diet to dogs. In fact dogs are not true carnivores- they are herbivores- they will eat anything. The are domesticated and not really able to handle the raw diet. the AVMA does not recommend the raw diet wither. You are putting you and your dog at risk for many types of parasites and bacterial diseases- such as salmonella. I do not think it is a good thing to do for your dog- the dogs that I see that come into to our vet that are on this diet are constantly battling diarrhea and never look thrifty. It is not a good thing to do.Feeding dogs raw food??? If you don't live in the country, do u just buy the meat at the grocery store?
Think of it this way, dogs can't cook. Nature didn't intend for them to cook. Dogs are natural hunters therefor eat meat.

It's a safe bet that by nature, dogs are supposed to eat raw meat.

Plus raw meat contains enzymes. Which will keep your pet heathly. They can eat raw meat because they have short digestive systems and the food is proceeded before bacteria can take effect.
I don't really think you should feed your dog raw food like steak that is like totally uncooked cause it might have salmanila.

We just buy are dog food at the grocery store cause they come in cans.Feeding dogs raw food??? If you don't live in the country, do u just buy the meat at the grocery store?
the benefit is that you know exactly what your dog is eating, and can tailor its diet specifically to its needs.
The only benefit is you can decide exactly what your dog eats. I personally think there are more benefits in getting your dog the organic dog food. That way you know that everything your dog is getting is organic. If you feed your dog raw food be careful what you give it cause it can get sick.Feeding dogs raw food??? If you don't live in the country, do u just buy the meat at the grocery store?
I would have never thought of feeding raw food. Are you talking raw raw or you mean meat that you purchase and prepare for them. Because with Raw meat you can get ring worm, with prepared meat you're less likely to get ring worm or other parasites living within th meat.
Dogs are carnivores, not omnivores, yet many commercial dog foods contain more grain than meat! With the recent pet food scare, a lot of people also started making their own dog food. There's still debates over the benefits of raw feeding, but many people choose raw food because it contains natural enzymes, which help digestion, and because it's closer to what a dog would eat in the wild.

Some people do buy raw meat at the grocery store (bony pieces like chicken necks and backs and tough, grisly cuts), but a number of small pet food companies exist just to supply the raw pet food market. You can buy raw meats from places like www.rawdogranch.com and www.hare-today.com to make your own diet, or you can purchase pre-made raw pet foods. An online search for "raw dog food" turns up quite a bit.
You can buy raw meat and feed it to your dogs. There isn't much benefit in it being raw... it can cause some parasite issues or food poisoning, although these days that is kinda rare. However, you should know that a dog has similar dietary needs to humans. They cannot survive only on meat for very long. You need to make sure they are getting some vegetable matter and a source of carbohydrates, such as oats or rice.
Just be careful not to feed them too much ground beef because it contains a high amount of bacteria! The benefits are that you lower the amount of toxins in their diet, you increase tha amount of nutrients, you increase the amount of water intake, you closely mimic their natural diet (because in nature dogs usually eat small prey) but they can also digest vegetables and some grain! Raw meat seldomly has the chance to culture bacteria or parasites in their digestive systems because their digestive tracks are alot shorter than ours.

    You also increase their vitality!!
the best benefit i can think of is that u know what ur putting into ur dog's body. u arent looking at an ingredient pannel and seeing something that u dont know what it is. u know what u r feeding u know what is used on that product.
The problem with feeding raw food is that if you only give them meat, they won't get the other stuff like the bones and organ meat that has the extra nutrients they need. If you do this, get a good vitamin supplement to put on the food to make sure they get the nutrients they need to prevent hip problems and assure digestive health.
you could just buy the brand natures variety.its raw and very healthy and human grade.go to naturesvariety.com

  • Raw Food Diet has anyone tried it and how long did they do it for?

Also I assume I can have my meusli for breakfast? How did you manage it?Raw Food Diet has anyone tried it and how long did they do it for?
I've tried it before. The longest I was ever on it was about three weeks. It is quite difficult and I found myself going to the bathroom ALL the time....my body just used only what it needed and got rid of it immediately. Raw food doesn't take too long to digest.

I normally only do it every once and a while to get a good body cleanse. It's very refreshing!

I actually didn't eat anything that was processed. I ate fresh fruit for breakfast. I think you can have Meusli...it's bare-bones and fibrous.

Good luck!Raw Food Diet has anyone tried it and how long did they do it for?
I started 2 weeks ago and I love it. It's okay if you're 50% to 75%. Because your body will adjust and you'll feel great! I think I'll always be 75% raw, because dinner has to be cooked.

I bought a lot of books about raw and the best one so far with the most information is:

"Rainbow Green Live-Food Cousine" This book will give you all the information you need. It also has awesome recipes!!!

If you want to know more about it go to:

www.rawfoodfarm.com and click on the FAQ.
    Most Meusli is baked.

I am doing Raw Veganism as my Summer Project... I am at my 6th. week. Some days it's smooth some days the craving(addiction) for cooked food is high. I really notice it if I'm having a stressful day. The reason I am doing Raw is all I have read %26amp; seen regarding it's Healing Power. I am coming out of a long term illness %26amp; need to jump start my health.Raw Food Diet has anyone tried it and how long did they do it for?
I tried it back when I had no money and no job.. I lived in a small homemade wood trailer in Unorganized township. I ate simply whatever I saw rabbits eat. this was for 3 seasons of the year spring summer and fall... luckily I got a job in time for winter. Loblaws Marketplace in Thunderbay Ontario. When You have no money and no jobs available.. then you do what you can to get by.
I almost died on that. I'm a junk food junkie...love my chips and curly fries and italian ices.Raw Food Diet has anyone tried it and how long did they do it for?
MY friend tweetygurl94 has did one of those diets.she sasid it was hard but she ket it up for about a year.
I did for about a week. Too much trouble when @ work. Did okay when @ home but could not seem to do it @ work.
one of my friends was one for like almost 1 year!!!!
    Never done it
i've been around 80% raw for nearly three months. i manage it by doing LOTS AND LOTS of reading, getting a good blender, juicer and spirulizer, and collecting recipe books (i call them uncookbooks).

it's not as hard as you think it is. it's work, yes, but it doesn't have to be super-difficult.

read "living on live food" by alissa cohen, as well as "the raw food detox diet" by natalia rose for two different approaches.

What is a good name for a blog about health, fitness and diet, specifically raw food?

Two options that are available are rawisyummy.com and rawandhappy.com.

There are many that I much prefer but they are already taken. If not one of these, can you suggest another? I am a 20-something female so it could take that into account. I also enjoy running and will probably include info about that.

Thanks! What is a good name for a blog about health, fitness and diet, specifically raw food?

I think, rawandhappy.com as a weblog address connotes the positivity of eating raw foods, so that would be great! :)

Why do a lot of people on the raw food diet/raw vegans have wrinkly skin and look old?

so a lot of extreme raw foodists out there claim that going raw makes them look radiant and glowing and makes their skin look great blah blah. but literally all of them (or the "raw gurus" i've seen on youtube) have wrinkles, look terribly old, and their hair looks dry. and they're all relatively young. what is lacking in their diets? Why do a lot of people on the raw food diet/raw vegans have wrinkly skin and look old?
Do you think they could have gone on to the raw food diet because health issues and their skin was terrible beforehand? Ive met people on a raw food and macrobiotic diet when they suffer an illness or just want to cleanse and I have to say their skin was glowing! but they were short term raw foodiesWhy do a lot of people on the raw food diet/raw vegans have wrinkly skin and look old?
I've not had that experience. Nearly everyone I know who is on a raw diet looks at least ten years younger than they actually are. I'm not on a raw diet, but based on the people I see, I'd try it. It's like it freezes them at the age they were when they started. I've only known one "raw" person who looked old, and he is pretty old. I think he also eats a really low-fat diet (he does the 80-10-10 thing) and he lived a bit rough before he started. He also smiles constantly. :-)Why do a lot of people on the raw food diet/raw vegans have wrinkly skin and look old?
    B12 is lacking

If you don't get enough B12, you might become anemic. You don't carry enough oxygen to your blood. You look pale and your immune system might become weak.

But there are be many other signs of B12 deficiency:

    * Tender or sore muscles;

    * Lack of energy, anxiety;

    * Irritability;

    * Poor hair condition;

    * Eczema;

    * Depression;

    * Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet;

    * Impaired memory;

    * Infertility;

    * Impotence. Why do a lot of people on the raw food diet/raw vegans have wrinkly skin and look old?
A lot of extremist meat eaters look fat and aged too.

    The key is extremist.
