I get raw meat that is on sale and put it in the freezer and take out what I will use the next day to thaw out. The best way to get your dog on a raw diet is fast your dog a day before you start raw. Never. Mix kibbles together. Raw meaty bones are perfect. Start with chicken for a week then start adding in other meats raw meaty bones and organs. You can also use wellness core, acana, orijen,natures variety instinct or evo to supplement a raw diet.Hey i want to get my dog on raw food?
You CANNOT slowly transition to the raw diet. Since kibble and raw digest at entirely different time (kibble takes about twice as long as raw does), if they are fed together the dog can never become accustomed to the raw diet.Go cold turkey and throw out the kibble.



Start with chicken, feed 2 to 3% of your dog's body weight each day. Once it is used to the diet, slowly add in different proteins and organs until the percentages add up to 80% muscle meat, 10% organs, and 10% bones.



You can buy the meat from any supermarket, but just check the label so that you do not buy any chicken with sodium levels above 100mg



Also try ethnic markets and search your area for meat co-ops.

I am feeding a raw dog food diet to my dogs.



You slowly add your new raw food over say a week with what you are feeding now.



For instance first day 10% new food with 90% old then second day 15% new then 25% then 40% - 60% - 80% - 100%. Bit of a nuisance but you will not have any upset tummy problems.



I use the frozen BARF diet plus I also make my own.



Buy the real frozen BARF instead of the market stuff as the frozen will have all of the right ingredients combined - plus will definately be without any added undesirable preservatives or color enhancers etc.



You will probably only find BARF in pet shops.



I'll put a link below for you - it's a specialist dog food website and just go to the BARF section for heaps of information.



Since switching to BARF my dogs have never looked back - plenty of energy, bright eyes, great coats and no smelly poo!

You can't slowly transfer. It's too different on the system. You just need to cold turkey it. Many people fast on the day inbetween to clear the system, and that's what I did. I fed kibble one day. They didn't get anything the next day. And then I fed raw.



Research the prey model raw diet.
