I have read just recently from an article online that it is harmful to feed a dog with raw food because it is prone to bacterial infection. How true is this?Is it ok to feed my dog with raw food?
"Dogs and cats are carnivores, and evolved eating raw meat. Their systems can handle a certain amount of bacteria; indeed, they were designed for it. Further, dogs are not just predators but scavengers, and evolved eating rotten and decaying flesh, as well as the droppings of herbivores and even other carnivores. They can handle bacterial loads that would kill us, without blinking an eye."
It's okay to feed raw, indeed. I feed raw and it's done wonders. I suggest it.Is it ok to feed my dog with raw food?
I have a friend in the animal science department at Cornell (one of the top vet schools in the country). There is uniform agreement that your dog needs a balanced diet. It is very unlikely you have the nutritional background to ensure your dog gets the balanced diet it needs. You can not tell the health of your animal just by looking at them. This may upset the raw food advocates, but the science simply does not support their contention.
It's very true. Human food is actually no safer than dog food. Most people chose to feed raw because they are tired of the pet food recalls, however, human food is recalled too.
The human food industry is not as sanitary in handling meat as you might think, cows are fed corn diets which causes them to develop E-Coli in their stomachs they poop and the ecoli lives in the manure, since they are raised on "Food Lots" other cattle come into contact with the infected manure getting it on their coats. When the cows go to slaughter the chances of the ecoli making it's way into the meat during the processing is quite high. You've seen the recalls on meat from Mad Cow and E-Coli poisoning?
So while experts are divided on the pros and cons of raw feeding, raw meat does contain bacteria that can make your dog very ill.Is it ok to feed my dog with raw food?
I have tried reading up on raw feeding recently my self. I'm still trying to put together the "facts" amongst the biased statements I find. (I should probably put up my own question about this). I just want to say, as with any research, you have to read MANY articles and books on both sides of the argument and put the pieces together your self. When it comes to articles you have to put less stock in it if it was a news or magazine article. Scientific articles are better. News articles often do little research beyond talking to one, maybe two "experts". They just spit stories out for the interest to the public.
ETD: One thing I do know is that dogs are not people. They do not have the same immune system, enzymes, nor digestive tract that we have. I know they can tolerate a lot more than our bodies can. They eat trash, poop, and who knows what else, without getting sick.
i don't think this is true my husky is 4 month old and i have fed him raw food since he was 10 weeks he has a shiny coat, clean teeth, breath never smells bad and has never had runny poo or been ill since i started with the raw. its the best food and most natural food to feed your dogIs it ok to feed my dog with raw food?
I have heard it is good for them, but it's not a good idea to start you dog on this type of diet without a TON of research. I personally have no problem feeding my pups their dry food, they do just fine.
Dogs evolved to eat raw prey animals. Nothing has changed other than the brain-washing of their owners by petfood manufacturers.

Well, considering I feed my dog a raw diet, I wouldn't consider it to be true.
My dog is the picture of health, shiny coat, white teeth, tons of energy. Never been sick either.
Raw food is best food for a dog, but it does get expensive. You are referring to raw meat right? What do you think wolves, coyotes eat? It's raw, and it is all natural nutrients/proteins.
I've heard that raw red meat is good for them. I've fed my dogs that before. eggs sometimes too
Its not true
The key to a raw diet is not feeding your dog anything that you wouldn't eat yourself. Lots of people think that they can feed the dog meat that is past its expiration date because otherwise it would just get thrown out- but its not any safer for that dog than it is for you.
