Anyway, yes my dog was getting enough food according to his appropriate weight and needs yet he was still very hungry. Why are dogs so hungry when they're switched to a RAW food diet?
Hard to say with out knowing the full diet
Maybe there was something missing in the balance?
Maybe the adjustment: Eating less good food to get the same nutrition will leave him his stomach feeling a bit empty?
Filler as mentioned above, useless bulk. Why are dogs so hungry when they're switched to a RAW food diet?
I didn't experience that at all when I switched my dog to a raw diet. Nor did my dog have problems switching back to kibble. I'd still be feeding raw, but since I bought another dog and do not have inexpensive meats available to me, I'm feeding a high quality kibble to both of my dogs. Why are dogs so hungry when they're switched to a RAW food diet?
When I changed my two over I got the totally opposite! On kibble me two were always hungry!!! Every dog is different! You can鈥檛 just go by that they say! You should feed your dog any where from 2 to 4% of there body weight! It all depend on there activity level if it鈥檚 hot out or cold out!Why are dogs so hungry when they're switched to a RAW food diet?
Their missing the filler in regular dog food. The filler adds bulk and fills them up.
I have a 9 month old that I recently switched to raw, and he's doing great on it. He is on a 6% diet and he gets 2 recreational bones a wk. and he doesn't seem to be as ravenous as he was when on kibble. When he was eating just kibble, he would've eaten every few hours if I kept the bowl full.
Were you feeding a grind or whole foods? Variety? Meaty bones, organ meat?
ADD: The grinds seem to digest so much quicker than the whole foods. It's already broken down, so it'll process quicker, therefore hunger comes sooner.
An odd comparison, but... should give a good idea of what I mean. If you keep feeding a baby strained foods, it takes alot more for them to feel satisfied. If you progressed to textured foods (with substance) they will typically eat less.
Although the grinds provide the same nutritional value as the whole foods, you're taking away the dental benefit of raw.
Only thing I would've suggested would be alternate the grind and whole foods. (chicken leg qtrs, chicken/turkey necks, split chicken back).
