Humans started eating cooked fooed because it tastes better. It has to taste better because it was somehow biologically advantageous, right? Well they did an experiment on some history channel show where they fed two roughly identical snakes identical pieces of beef - except one was cooked. The amount of energy expended to digest the food by the snake eating the raw meat was much larger than that of the snake eating the cooked meat. So does this basically mean that eating a properly cleaned raw fish filet would accompany a much lower calorie count than that of a cooked one?Does eating the same exact food raw burn many more calories?
The only way you burn calories by eating food is basically the chewing of the food. Cooking food does not in itself add or subtract any calories from the food. There are only so many calories in any given piece of food and there is really nothing that can change that. However, when cooking most people would use some kind of an oil to cook with, this adds calories. If a piece of food was cooked with no additions like oil, it would have the same amount of calories as that same food uncooked. It is suggested that the biological advantage of cooking foods was to kill off harmful parasites.Does eating the same exact food raw burn many more calories?
That is the whole principle behind the raw food diet.... But the actual digestive difference is minimal.
The biggest difference comes from:
a) when you cook food, a significant amount moisture is removed from it making it smaller - 5 oz of raw meat will actually decrease to less than 4 oz. So eating raw veggies and meats amounts to eating more water with it, causing you to feel fuller.
b) cooked food is easier to eat, and so you can eat it faster than raw food - eating food slower leads to eating less because the body will tell you that your stomach is full.
c) prepared cooked food tastes better, so you will eat more of it ;)Does eating the same exact food raw burn many more calories?
Although it is very true that eating a raw food diet is a great way to increase overall health, it will not burn an increased amount of calories compared to other healthy diet programs.
The main benefits of eating a diet based on raw foods is that none of the nutrients that the foods contain are lost during the cooking process.
Another benefit is that it is generally lower in calories as there is no added oils and fats that would be used in cooking, so I guess in these terms you may not burn more calories but you will have consumed fewer calories.Does eating the same exact food raw burn many more calories?
you have to have variety in your diet. If you eat the same exact thing then you will not burn many calories and you may be missing certain nutrients. You can live a raw diet but you have to mix up the fruits and vegetables on a daily basis.
some food like carrots cooking brings out the natural sugar. so it might not have more/less calories but it will effect your glycemic levels which will effect your metabolism %26amp; energy levels.
