Is a raw food diet bad for you?

The recent Wife Swap episode got me thinking about a raw food diet and I've been researching its benefits. What about the bacteria and contaminents in raw food, especially unpasteurized meat and dairy products? Is it bad for you?Is a raw food diet bad for you?
I saw that episode, too...how gross and misguided was that!? LOL

Most people I know that have a raw food diet are strict vegetarians -- no meat, no dairy and no eggs ever. Raw tends to mean both uncooked AND unprocessed. It is also typically organic.

All meat is processed...after all, you can't really eat chicken in its natural form like you would an apple! So, as far as I understand *real* raw foodism, meat just doesn't fit into the picture in any way.Is a raw food diet bad for you?
A raw food diet creates major improvements in health. The reasons are not known, but the experience is unmistakable. Weight normalizes, which generally means a reduction in fat. At the same time, a person feels extremely energized. It's as if energy would rather be burned up than converted to fat.Learning to eat a raw food diet is mostly trial and error. Whatever is available and one wants to eat is generally adequate. Protein is found in raw nuts and seeds, such as sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, filberts, etc., and sprouts are also a good source of protein. Plant proteins do not have the same balance of amino acids as animal protein, so a variety of sources are needed.
I don't think that the diet condones eating raw meat or unpasteurized dairy. That is unsafe.

I believe that the diet is for vegetarians/vegans who eat their VEGETABLES raw, as there are more health benefits for eating raw than cooked, and their beliefs about cooking anything prevent them from doing so.

You should continue to research and talk to your doctor so you know what you're doing before you hurt yourself. Is a raw food diet bad for you?
It takes a little getting used to - your body might reject some of it. Make sure your food is organic and pure. Getting rid of the toxins that are in your body and building up your immune system is the key to going raw. When you've accomplished this, you'll be the picture of health, youth and beauty, and I wish you the best.
dr. mercola's web site has updated info for raw food/unpasteurized milk, etc.

some ppl use a 75% raw diet and the rest cooked. Is a raw food diet bad for you?
I think that's the reason the Japanese live longer than any of the people in the world, because of their raw food (sushi's, sashimi's...etc) (But I think that's because of their high sanitary standards. They can eat raw food because it's clean in their country? ^^;)

uhh so yeah. hehe.
Raw food is good for you. Especially the fruits and vegetables.
I've been on a mostly raw food diet for a 2 weeks and I feel great. It's not bad for you. It has helped me lost weight and have more energy.

I never worry about germs and contamination but if you worry about those things then you should try organic or cooking the food just a little. Try a quick blanche or grilling a bit.

I don't believe raw diet includes eatting meat and dairy products. The whole point of going raw is to get as much nutrients from the food as possible by not cooking it.

Have you watched Supersize Me- the movie? It's a good example that shows that eating unhealth foods is worse for you than eating raw.

Also have you checked out out the ingredients it take to make a thing like ice cream? Why is it that there are chemicals in there that you can't pronounce and you don't even know why it's in there. The last time I check it takes 3 ingredients to make rice crispies. But the premade one had 29 ingredients!

The stuff they put in food to preserve it or make it taste better for less has a big health risk.
E-Coli is in raw meats and veggies, they just found some in Dole lettuce a few days ago. Eating anything raw has its risks.
