Meat is very expensive where I live. I can easily buy it for my family but it becomes costly when I add up two meals a day for three dogs. To offset the cost a bit I was wondering if it would be okay to feed a highly quality, grain free dog food in the am and raw food at night. Would this upset their stomachs too much?Would it be okay if I give my dog dry food in the morning and raw at night?
Dogs should never have raw meat. It is actually very bad for them.Would it be okay if I give my dog dry food in the morning and raw at night?
mixing raw and dry can kill your dog. kibble sits in your dogs stomach longer than raw. mixing bateria from raw, mixing in with the kibble in your dogs stomach is just asking for trouble.
you can find a high quality dry like Orijen. or you can buy raw foods from food banks, save a lot stores, and even ask butcher shops and grocery stores to save their left over meaty bones and other meats that they would normally throw away
My concern here is that your dogs may become spoiled by the meats and refuse the kibbles, but when you settle into a routine they'll eat anything if hungry enough. My dog is especially picky and getting him back on kibble after wet foods was a nightmare. I do a mix now. Mostly kibble and a few bites of wet mixed in. Cuts costs of the meats and they still leave full. You could consider mixing the two. I don't feed my dogs 'human' meats, but I do get them wet dog food.Would it be okay if I give my dog dry food in the morning and raw at night?
It shouldn't if you feed it after 6+ hours, but then again I wouldn't know too much since I havent actually done those diets together... Sometimes I feed my dog raw for breakfast, and kibble for dinner; I've never had any problems with it, but I only do that sometimes.
Try it out, if you see it upsetting his stomach or something, stick to one of the diets (kibble OR raw).
Best of luck.
You either go all raw or you don't, in my opinion. So if you can't afford it then just stick to dry dog food. Try to find a better dry dog food like blue if you want your dog to be eating healthier.Would it be okay if I give my dog dry food in the morning and raw at night?
Many people feed that way. Just make sure it's at least 8hrs apart.
